On behalf of the 2 million members of the Federation, Banovic urged labor unions worldwide and all well-meaning people to demand the halting of the brutal aggression on Yugoslavia and the genocide of its people. By raising their voice against the aggression, international labor organizations will also defend themselves, labor and civil rights, freedom and the future, Banovic said. Banovic also urged Federation members to back the leadership of Serbia and Yugoslavia and the Yugoslav Army in the endeavors to defend the homeland and to resolve the problems in Kosovo-Metohija by political means based on the respect of Yugoslavia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. President of the Belgrade Labor Union Federation Bogoljub Mitrovic said labor unions in some countries, such as the Moscow Labor Union Federation, the Russian Oil, Gas and Construction Union, Belarussian and Ukrainian Labor Federations, and labor unions from Portugal, Czech Republic, Italy and Republika Srpska had sent humanitarian aid to Yugoslavia and appealed to their governments to help halt the aggression. The Greek Labor Confederation has already organized work stoppages in protest against the NATO aggression, and the Greek Railway Union said it would go on a general strike in case of a ground invasion on Yugoslavia to prevent the transport of troops and weapons to the war-torn areas.
